For the past week or so I’ve been trying to do without Virtual Desktops, instead optioning for a nifty little app called SpiritedAway, which hides idle apps after a period of inactivity.
I discovered the incredible handiness that Option+1-9 switches between browser tabs in Firefox, and this is compelling enough for me to consider not using those keys for virtual desktops. And I’ve not been using virtual desktops as much as I was when I was, for example, running Life Balance all the time. That, coupled with some inconsistencies and incompatibilities with Desktop Manager, has led me to try this out. And it’s working pretty well.
What this means, though, is the desktop switching habits that I’ve had for many years, from way back in the WindowMaker days, must be unlearned. But it seems to be working out; it’s growing on me. I’d probably switch back to virtual desktops today, but I’m going to give SpiritedAway some more time.
