NFL Picks, week 9

Just brutal last week. Must recover.

Last week: 4-9 vs. spread, 8-5 straight up. To date: 18-21-1 vs. spread, 23-19 straight up. This week 4-8 vs. spread, 7-5 straight up.

Redskins (+9) at Falcons

The Redskins are in complete disarray, and the Falcons are not. Atlanta’s got the better team, but that’s a big number. Is it too big? Not for me. I’ll take the Falcons. Results: Redskins 17, Falcons 31 (W, W)

Ravens at Bengals (+3)

I just have a bad feeling about this game. The Bengals are a good team just as long as Carson Palmer is both healthy and playing well. Look for him to have a bad day against the Ravens D that can stop both the pass and run. I’ll take the Ravens by more than three. Results: Ravens 7, Bengals 17 (L, L)

Dolphins (+10.5) at Patriots

The Patriots always have trouble with the Dolphins. While I think they’ll win, it won’t be by 11 or more; give me the Dolphins to beat the spread. Results: Dolphins 17, Patriots 27 (W, W)

Chiefs (+6.5) at Jaguars

Only a couple of “junk” games this week, and this is one. The Chiefs are pretty bad, and they have to travel, so I’ll take the Jaguars by at least a touchdown. Results: Chiefs 21, Jaguars 24 (L, W)

Cardinals (+3) at Bears

Arizona has to rebound from a horrible showing last week. They will — give me the Cardinals for the straight up win. Results: Cardinals 41, Bears 21 (W, W)

Texans (+9) at Colts

Another big number, given the Colts’ injury problems and general un-sharp-ness of late, and the Texans are much improved. Indy stays undefeated, but the line is too much. I’ll take the Texans to cover. Results: Texans 17, Colts 20 (W, W)

Packers at Buccaneers (+9.5)

In the race to the bottom, the Buccaneers are in the lead. The Pack is playing with a chip on its shoulder. I’ll give the Bucs the points and still take the Packers. Results: Packers 28, Buccaneers 38 (L, L)

Lions (+10) at Seahawks

The other “junk” game this weekend. The Lions are improving, but still a few years away. The Seahawks are just not that good. This one is close; Seattle will win but the Lions will cover. Results: Lions 20, Seahawks 32 (L, W)

Panthers (+13.5) at Saints

The biggest spread of the weekend belongs to the Saints, and who can argue with that? The Panthers aren’t as bad as we think, but the Saints are better than we think. I’ll take the Saints by a couple of touchdowns. Results: Panthers 20, Saints 30 (L, W)

Chargers (+4.5) at Giants

An AFCW team traveling to the East typically has trouble. This is a late game, though, so I don’t think it matters. The Giants are proving to be a bust. Nevertheless, I think they can put up some points against the Chargers. I’ll give SD the points and still take the Giants. Results: Chargers 21, Giants 20 (L, L)

Cowboys (+3) at Eagles

Ooh, good SNF game this week. And the line seems right. Philly is surging, and the Cowboys are just too inconsistent for me. Spot Dallas a field goal, and I still like the Eagles to win. Results: Cowboys 20, Eagles 16 (L, L)

Steelers at Broncos (+3)

Sigh. I know I should, you know I should, but I just can’t. My Broncos in the upset at home under the lights. Results: Steelers 28, Broncos 10 (L, L)
