After watching a particularly stirring screencast from the Drupal Dojo — what an incredible resource that is — I’ve taken to experimenting even more with the views and panels modules, and, well, a new front page for OIF is the result.
On the top of this new page will be the latest blog entry. Clicking on the title or the “read more” link will show you the complete entry. I’m trying to blog more often. I’m not doing very well at it, but I am trying. Down the right side of this page are the 10 latest blog entries. Click on a title to read the whole thing.
Down the left side are two lists. The first one lists the latest web links that I’ve posted. I used to use del.icio.us to store my bookmarks, but now I just keep them here. Clicking on one will take you to that site. Under the web links are random nodes from my wiki. There’s a large amount of content in here, where I document things for my own use. These are just pulled from random and placed there. Click on one to see the whole entry.
Under these is a table of most-recently edited content. Likely these will include the latest web links and blog entries, but also as I make changes to the wiki nodes they’ll show up in this list as well.
I continue to be amazed at CCK and views, and now the panels module brings in even more ultra-coolness. I’m so glad that I chose Drupal from the smattering of CMS platforms that existed way back when. That decision has repaid itself numerous times. Drupal has gotten better with each release, getting more way-cool features and enhancements.
There’s likely some air in the lines, too, as I’ve converted my content once again, trying to undo a bad decision I made some time ago, switching to a CCK field for content when I should have used the regular ‘body’ field. So far it only looks like I completely lost one post, not sure how, but I’ll get it off the last backup.
