LCD TVs (and, by extension, I presume, LCD monitors) are made using NF3, Nitrogen TriFluoride. The gas is supposedly 17,200 times more harmful to the climate than CO2, and production is ramping up. It’s important to note that we (1) do not regulate this gas, and (2) do not know to what extent it’s leaking into the atmosphere.
My question would be if the power savings over CRTs balance it out. Not to mention all of the nasty stuff that goes into making CRTs, and how harmful they are in a landfill, both in terms of greenhouse gases and outright toxins.
