Hosted!

Since the beginning of this website, way back in the days of the “Perpetually Disgruntled” blog, my web host has been my employer, UMCES. Today, this site is off the Lab’s servers and onto hosting provided by A2 Web Hosting. Now I can begin to monetize my blog a bit, subsidize my hosting costs, and advertise my services as a Drupal developer, something I was not allowed to do on the non-commercial servers.

Step one: If you buy stuff from Amazon, please consider using my Amazon store widget thingy.

Photo Galleries

After playing around with Facebook and Flickr, I’ve decided to host image and photo galleries here on this site. Most people that host image galleries on their Drupal site use solutions like Gallery with the gallery module to handle showing the Gallery site inside the Drupal site. But, with CCK and Views, some other modules, and a little bit of code, simple galleries can be done within Drupal itself.

I’m just starting to fill the galleries up, but they’re now linked through the top menu on the masthead. I’ll be working in the coming weeks to get the highlights of my iPhoto library into my new galleries. I am also planning on writing up the Drupal-y goodness powering my galleries.

Feeds

There are a lot of different feeds available for the content of this website, if you choose to get it from an RSS reader rather than visiting the site directly. The main feeds for this site:

In addition to those content feeds, every post category (tag) has its own feed. The format of those feeds are:

  • http://oif.eafarris.com/tags/(tag name)/feed

For example, the humor category has this feed: http://oif.eafarris.com/tags/humor/feed

And the feed for the “typography” category would be http://oif.eafarris.com/tags/typography/feed.

Simple enough, eh?

After watching a particularly stirring screencast from the Drupal Dojo — what an incredible resource that is — I’ve taken to experimenting even more with the views and panels modules, and, well, a new front page for OIF is the result.  read more »
