podcasting

Audio blogging, that is, recording yourself speak your content. Weird.

Actually, it can be pretty cool, since podcasting also involves RSS for syndication and subscriptions to published content. More and more traditional media (ahem, “radio” and “tv”) are dabbling in podcasts, as a way to get their content out to more listeners, and as a pre-emptive strike when it comes to the legal wranglings of copyright, fair use, and redistribution.

In order not to invoke the dreaded “iPod” name, Microsoft has been referring to this as “Blogcasting.” pah.

Creative Labs, maker of the “Zen” line of portable media players, also does not wish to pay tribute to Apple’s iPod, so it is claiming that podcast stands for Personal On Demand Broadcast. Interesting, and weird.
