Spotlight

The metadata driven search functionality built-in to Mac OS X beginning with version 10.4 (Tiger). Some people say it’s the ‘killer app’ of Tiger, but it seems to run too slow on my Powerbook to be geniunely useful. Still, it’s got decent command-line support and does search within metadata, so it’s a pretty good attempt at real search. But it doesn’t make folder hierarchy obselete, for me.
